CapCut's New Terms: What Gold Coast Users Needs To Know

CapCut's new terms is one of hot topics today.
July 5, 2025

CapCut is a popular video editing app from ByteDance, often used to create short clips for TikTok or Facebook. Recently, CapCut’s new terms of its service have raised concerns. What do these changes really mean for your content?

That means they can use your videos however they want, for as long as they want, even modify them, make money from them and never have to ask or pay you. The terms also mention using your voice, face and likeness.

What are Capcut’s new terms that spark rights concerns?

In June 2025, one account in Reddit’s community called “r/CapCut” posted that CapCut had updated its terms of service, including words like “unconditional”, “irrevocable” and “royalty-free”. This is the main issue that the new terms seem to give CapCut a lot of control over anything you create on the app.

In the comment of the Reddit post, many users raised concerns about privacy and copyright, wondering if they still have control when CapCut can keep and reuse even unpublished videos.

Also, if you’re a freelancer or creator working with clients or brands, it gets even messier. CapCut says they can use content you make for others but most client work has its own contracts and rights. If CapCut tries to claim that too, things could get legally confusing fast.

What made things worse was how the update was shared. CapCut posted new terms online but didn’t send emails or show clear alerts in the app. The policy says it may notify users, but there’s no clear promise. Even worse, users can’t deny the term. By continuing to use the app, users are automatically considered to have agreed.

How does the company respond to Capcut’s new terms?

Following public concern, CapCut officially responded. The company said there were no changes to how it handles user rights over the content they create.

According to CapCut, the updated terms were meant only to clarify wording, especially around how the platform works with third parties, including service providers, distribution platforms and partners. CapCut emphasized that user content still belongs to its creator and the platform does not use that data to train AI unless clearly stated and agreed upon, in line with legal requirements.

However, BRANDCOM think this announcement remain controversial, mainly because CapCut didn’t clearly notify users.
